BAKE's roots go back more than 15 years. It was founded by owners Sue Wilson and Doreen Spitz, who have a wealth of experience in the food industry, with sales exec Lara Lauts, Doreen's daughter, rounding off the trio at the heart of BAKE. 

While the company has grown in leaps and bounds, their original commitment to home-style baking has never wavered.


BAKE's ethos is passion, perfectionism and the personal touch. The BAKE factory meets the highest hygiene and safety standards, and has both HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point, an international standard) and SAFSIS (Southern African Food Safety Inspection Service) certification. Quality control is a daily ritual supervised by Sue and Doreen, and covers everything from a sampling of every batch baked (tough job, but somebody's got to do it!), to the minute details of packaging and presentation.

BAKE has a dedicated staff of about 20 people, many of whom have been with the company since its inception. BAKE's commitment to skills development and creating a happy working environment is another key ingredient in the recipe for its success.
